Virtual reconstruction of the Iberian monument of Cal Posastre
Video of the hypothetical reconstruction of the monument, interpreted as a stele, based on the recovered fragments. It has been created as a support for the most relevant remains of this monument, which are part of the exhibition ‘The Iberian Enigma: Archaeology of a Civilization’ (MAC Barcelona, from April 29, 2021, to January 16, 2022). Virtual anastylosis has allowed positioning a significant portion of the remains in space, following photogrammetric modeling, and proposing the volume and final appearance. The result has been a multidisciplinary teamwork that has facilitated the archaeological study of the monument and the creation of a product for knowledge and dissemination of Iberian heritage.
Photogrammetry was carried out by Albert Sierra, Laia Turbio, and Òscar Balada (Giravolt Program), 2D and 3D design by Pablo Aparicio and Elena Valero (PAR / Archaeology and Virtual Heritage and 3D STOA / Heritage and Technology S.L.); and the reconstruction hypothesis by Pablo Aparicio (PAR), Magí Miret (Service of Archaeology and Paleontology), Núria Molist, Gabriel de Prado, and M. Carme Rovira (Museum of Archaeology of Catalonia).
The Cal Posastre monument is a unique work, both for being one of the few sculptural manifestations among the northern Iberians and for its iconography. A horseman, to whom the stele would be dedicated, dominates the upper scene, while in the lower part, we find a series of seated figures, perhaps representing their lineage. On the sides, there are rows of overlapping male heads. It was destroyed and buried in different pits at the beginning of the 1st century BC.
