The lands surrounding the castle
The lands of Sant Martí Sarroca are located in the Prelitoral Depression, a long and fairly narrow strip that stretches from the Camp de Tarragona to Girona, and from where it connects with the lands of the Terres de l’Ebre and the Valencia Region to the south and the Empordà and Roussillon to the north. This has facilitated communications and settlements over time, as 85% of the Catalan population live there today. It is delimited by the Pre-coastal Mountain Range, which includes the Montseny, Montserrat and Penedès mountains themselves, and by the Coastal Hills, with the Ordal and Garraf ranges acting as a natural barrier with the Mediterranean Sea, all clearly visible from the castle watchtower. A heavily populated region throughout history, which has become a mosaic of crops, vineyards and castles.
