The municipality
Sant Martí Sarroca is located in the Alt Penedès region, in the valley of the river Foix. As we saw at the beginning of the tour, it was not until the late 19th century that the town began to spread across the plain, where until then there had only been scattered farmhouses. The new centre witnessed the birth of streets such as Casetes, Cases Noves and Ferran Muñoz, where the most important buildings were located, such as the town hall, the schools and even a chapel. The Farmers’ Progress Cooperative and the premises of Cal Salvador and Cal Lluís, the old cinema, date from these early decades. The municipality is made up of several neighbourhoods and districts, extending over 35.59 km2 and at 295 metres above sea level. Thus, in addition to the town centre, called Cases Noves, we find the following neighbourhoods: La Bleda, La Rovira Roja, Brugueres and La Rovireta, Cal Miret, Cal Sisplau, Can Lleó, Can Rigol, Can Sogues, Can Cruset, Les Cantarelles, Romaní, Els Hostalets, La Fassina, Serra de Dalt and Serra de Baix, Rovellats, La Torre – Sant Pere, Barri, Les Cabrunes, El Garrofer and, finally, the neighbourhood of La Roca.
