The valley viewpoint

The valley viewpoint

If you stop at this point, between the hill of La Roca and the adjacent mountain, you will see a deep valley formed over time by the erosion of the Pontons stream, between the farmhouses of Can Carbó de la Riera and la Fassina. It is a limestone landscape of cliffs, chasms and balms decorated with a mantle of pines and, to a lesser extent, of holly oaks and oak trees. This rugged terrain has become a good attraction for hikers, climbers and speleologists, who enjoy its particular features, such as the Foradada or Rodona caves, or climbing the various iron ways, or simply following the ‘Camí de la Font de la Salut’ or the Path of the Source of Health. Also noteworthy in the Artiga area is the Pedra Esquerdada, a unique rock formation, or the Pastera outcrop: a place where archaeology has discovered abundant remains of human habitat.
